The Alu-Cab Icarus transforms your Defender into a practical camper without the need for a fixed high roof. The lift-up design opens in around 2 minutes, creating additional headroom and a comfortable space for camping, relaxing and sleeping.
Designed and manufactured in Cape Town, South Africa, the Icarus uses a lightweight aluminium construction and is engineered specifically for Defender applications.

Due to the size and weight of the roof, Icarus conversions are fitted on-site by Nene Overland or supplied for collection only.
Original Roof – Core Return
The original vehicle roof removed during the Icarus conversion is retained by Nene Overland as a core item, and this is reflected in the conversion price.
If you wish to retain your original Defender roof, an additional charge will apply. Please contact us for details.
Sleep Above Your Grenadier
The Alu-Cab Silenus Roof Conversion gives your INEOS Grenadier a proper, comfortable sleeping space for two, without taking away from its go-anywhere character.
Inside, there’s a generous 2,588 × 1,180 mm sleeping area with a 70 mm foam mattress, giving two adults plenty of room to settle in after a day on the road.
Raise the roof and you gain around 200 mm of extra interior height, making the space feel much more open and comfortable. The complete roof conversion weighs 147 kg.

Insulation
The Silenus roof conversion is insulated to help maintain a comfortable temperature inside the sleeping area in all seasons. The high-quality insulation helps keep the interior cooler during warm weather and retains heat in colder conditions, making the roof conversion suitable for year-round touring and camping.

Electrics
The Silenus rooftop tent is equipped with two USB and two USB-C ports, as well as interior and exterior LED lights. A simple switch allows you to completely turn off the USB ports to prevent standby power consumption. Robust Construction
The roll-formed aluminium roof provides a strong and durable structure built to handle the demands of touring and off-road use. Designed specifically for the INEOS Grenadier, the Silenus combines a clean, modern design with the rugged construction and build quality expected from Alu-Cab.
Interior & Comfort
Sleeping area: Rear bed section designed to allow easy access into the vehicle without disturbing anyone sleeping.
Roof insulation: Closed-cell polyethylene foam with a hard-wearing, automotive-grade finish to help keep the sleeping area comfortable in all seasons.
Canvas: 400 g/m², UV-resistant, rip-stop double-layer waterproof canvas with sealed seams.
Fly sheet: Roll-up fly sheet provides extra protection from wind and rain when needed.
Storage: Handy internal shoe bag keeps footwear out of the sleeping area.
Exterior & Mounting
Accessory ready: The roof is designed to work with a range of available accessories.
Roof MOLLE plates: Add extra mounting points for your camping and touring kit.
Mounting channels: Double nut slots on both sides make it easy to mount accessories where you need them.
Cargo rails: Integrated roof rails allow simple fitting of load bars and other carrying systems.
Lighting: One roof-mounted LED light and two internal LED lights.
Power: Two USB and two USB-C charging points.
Battery protection: Dedicated kill switches prevent the USB ports from drawing power when not in use.
Weather sealing: Continuous perimeter rubber seals the roof between the lid and base to help keep the elements out.
Solar ready: Integrated Anderson plugs in the roof make connecting a solar setup simple.
